The list of back to school books can go ON and ON but check out this list to get you started! From our blog and products, I’m sure you can tell we are BIG fans of themed therapy. Themed therapy starts with a really good book.

The Pout Pout Fish Goes to School (My (Allyssa’s) favorite!)

If You Take A Mouse to School (A CLASSIC!)

Dr. Suess’s School Things (Simple, cute language for preschool age)

The New Bear at School (Highly recommended by others)

Little Yellow Bus (such a cute story!)

First Day Jitters (A good story to target social skills)

Activities

Apple Sensory Bin (click me)

Saving the best activity for… first. This is my favorite! A sensory bin has so many uses in a speech therapy sessions and can do wonders to break the ice with new students at the beginning of the year.

School Following Directions Color Activity (click)

An easy following directions activity for an introductory session and baseline data collection

This activity has leveled directions and other pages to allow for use in a variety of groups. It can be used as an opening/fun activity or used to gather information on where a student’s receptive language skills lie.

Get to Know You Worksheet/Games

Get to know you games are a great way to introduce students to a group they will be working with as well as allowing you to get to know your students a little better. There are SO many kinds of activities and games to accomplish this. I personally love the coloring sheets to allow your students’ creativity to shine.

Make a Backpack on ABCYa

A cute, silly, and fun activity to mix things up at the beginning of the year. This is a great break the ice activity, a reinforcement, or a language sampling activity.

School Bus Toy with People

This is a favorite toy of mine for the ENTIRE year, however, it’s perfect to pair with social stories of back to school time and learning to ride the bus. It can also be used to help students practice following directions, answering questions, and a variety of other language targets!

Back to School = Apples!

We have a few different apple products that I will share. This one is great because it includes a file folder game and leveled worksheets to target the goals in a variety of ways. Apples are cute all year around but especially in the Fall!
